Congo Raw began in 2009 with a simple goal: to feed our own dogs better.

For years, dogs had been a major part of our lives. Through dog ownership, training and competition, we saw firsthand how important nutrition is to the health, condition, energy and overall well-being of our animals. We also became increasingly dissatisfied with the food choices available to us.

We wanted something different.

We wanted food made from real ingredients, with a focus on quality, appropriate nutrition and minimal processing. Most importantly, we wanted to know exactly what we were putting in our pets’ bowls. So we started researching.

What began as a search for better food for our own dogs became a much bigger journey into nutrition, ingredients, sourcing and food preparation. We began sourcing quality local meats and making raw food for our own animals. Before long, other pet owners began asking if they could feed the food we were making to their own pets.

That was the beginning of Congo Raw.

Since 2009, Congo Raw has grown from feeding our own animals to producing raw food for a growing community of pet owners.

But the principle behind the company has remained the same:

Make the kind of food we want to feed our own pets.

We didn’t set out to create the biggest raw pet food company. We set out to make food we could stand behind.

That means paying attention to the things that matter—from the ingredients we source to the way our food is prepared, handled, packaged and stored.

We believe quality starts with the ingredients, but it doesn’t end there.
